ccminer-1-5-75-git-spmod

A new update in the form of a Windows binary compiled from the latest Git source code of the ccMiner 1.5.75-git SP-MOD fork by SP optimized for the latest Maxwell-based video cards (source). The new release 75 marks a significant change as the project is now migrated to CUDA 7.5 and is compiled with it as a result the initial release may have slower hashrates for some algorithms than the last CUDA 6.5 release 74. Quark and Lyra2v2 should initially have pretty much the same hashrate while Qubit, X11 and X13 for example should be slightly slower. The most notable decrease in performance is with NeoScrypt, so if you are mining NeoScrypt crypto coins you should not be in a hurry to switch to the 75 release, though we are most likely soon going to see it catching up, so do not forget to support SP with a donation. Do note that the SP-MOD fork of ccMiner is designed for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. The Windows binary release we have made available here is with support for Compute 5.0 and Compute 5.2 GPUs or with other words only for Maxwell-based Nvidia video cards compiled with CUDA 7.5 and VS2013.

ccminer-1-5-76-spmod

One more update in the form of a Windows binary compiled from the latest Git source code of the ccMiner 1.5.76-git SP-MOD fork by SP optimized for the latest Maxwell-based video cards (source). The new release 76 marks is focused on optimizing the performance for CUDA 7.5, the last CUDA 6.5 compiled release was version 74. The performance improvements since release 75 are mostly focused on the X-algorithms, though you should see some improvement in Qubit and Quark as well, Neoscrypt on the other hand is still significantly slower on the CUDA 7.5 releases. Do note that the SP-MOD fork of ccMiner is designed for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. Another update in the form of a Windows binary compiled from the latest Git source code of the ccMiner 1.5.77-git SP-MOD fork by SP optimized for the latest Maxwell-based video cards (source). The new release comes with a lot of optimizations in the performance of the Lyra2REv2 algorithm under CUDA 7.5, the last CUDA 6.5 compiled release was version 74. There is also some improvement in Neoscrypt hashrate, but it is still slower on the CUDA 7.5 releases, as well as some other minor improvements in other algorithms. Do note that the SP-MOD fork of ccMiner is designed for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. ccMiner SPMOD Release CUDA 6.5 vs CUDA 7.5 Performance Comparison

ccminer-spmod-cuda-65-vs-75

The ccMiner SPMOD fork for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs (source) has recently been migrated to use the newer CUDA 7.5 from the older CUDA 6.5. The latest version with CUDA 6.5 support was version ccMiner 1.5.74 and the latest version is ccMiner 1.5.78 that already uses CUDA 7.5. The first release with CUDA 7.5 had not so good performance and was slower in some algorithms in terms of performance as compared to the latest CUDA 6.5 release, but the latest code has been optimized to offer similar or even better hashrate in most supported algorithms. We took an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 (Gigabyte GV-N970WF3OC-4GD) running at stock frequencies for a spin with some of the currently popular algorithms to compare the performance of the latest CUDA 6.5 to the latest CUDA 7.5 release of ccMiner spmod. The results in the table clearly show that aside from NeoScrypt the latest CUDA 7.5 release offers very similar or even slightly better hashrate compared to the latest CUDA 6.5 version. The hashrate of X13, X15 and Qubit is still slightly slower, but not much. So unless you are mining NeoScrypt you should have no reasons not to upgrade to the newer CUDA 7.5 releases and soon we are probably going to see even better performance thanks to further optimizations of the code. Do note however that some other Maxwell GPUs might have some more variance in terms of performance difference between the two compared versions.

ccminer-djm34-neoscrypt

After a crowdfunding effort to accumulate 2.5 BTC from users DJM34 has released a faster open source NeoScrypt kernel (source). Apart from the NeoScrypt the rest is based on the latest ccMiner form from SP version 1.5.78 that uses CUDA 7.5, so it is pretty much useful only if you are mining NeoScrypt-based altcoin. We have compiled a Windows 32-bit binary of the new ccminer djm34 neoscrypt fork with faster NeoScrypt using VS2013 and CUDA 7.5 as well as CUDA 6.5 (two versions available), compatible only with Nvidia Maxwell GPUs (Compute 5.0 and 5.2). Below we have compared the Neoscrypt performance using GTX 970 of this new release with the ccMiner 1.5.74 from SP with CUDA 6.5 and ccMiner 1.5.78 from sp with CUDA 7.5 to see what is the performance gain. Note that the initial ccMiner releases from SP with CUDA 7.5 had brought a significant drop in performance in the NeoScrypt algorithm, so it was best to use 1.5.74 with CUDA 6.5 for NeoScrypt.

NeoScrypt GTX 970 hashrate performance:
– ccMiner 1.5.74 CUDA 6.5 SPMOD fork: 525 KHS
– ccMiner 1.5.78 CUDA 7.5 SPMOD fork: 275 KHS
– ccMiner djm34 neoscrypt 6.5 from djm34: 632 KHS
– ccMiner djm34 neoscrypt 7.5 from djm34: 611 KHS

Note that the comparison with 1.5.78 is with an earlier release that did not include the latest NeoScrypt kernel from djm34, because it seems that SP has integrated it in the latest GitHub code after the code has been released by djm34.

Do note that the Blake256 algorithm used by Vanillacoin is slightly different from the one used by BlakeCoin, so you need to use the one specifically for Vanillacoin! Do note that the SP-MOD fork of ccMiner is designed for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. ccminer-1-7-6-tpruvot-decred

A quick update with a new Windows binary compiled from the latest ccMiner 1.7.6-git fork from tpruvot (source) with some improvements regarding the Decred (DCR), the latest pull request submitted by pallas that can provide up to 10% performance increase. The release below includes two versions of ccMiner, one is 32-bit binary for Windows that is compiled with CUDA 7.5 and with support for Compute 2.0 or newer Nvidia GPUs, and another that is 64-bit Windows binary compiled with CUDA 7.5 for Compute 3.5 or newer Nvidia GPUs. Do note that if you have a newer Nvidia video card you should use the 64-bit CUDA 7.5 release as it is providing better hashrate than the 32-bit CUDA 6.5 binary. It seems that the speedup works better for Linux than on Windows, the hashrate increase under Windows OS much less than the improvement under Linux.

Update: Binaries have been recompiled and should now provide a bit more hashrate for Windows users than the previous release.

New ccMiner 1.7.1 fork by alexs78 With Improved Vcash and Decred Performance

ccminer-1-7-1-alexis78

Alexis Provos has updated his fork of ccMiner (source) with improved performance for mining Vcash and Decred Blake256-based crypto coins and we have compiled a Windows binary to try it out. His latest release brings the same performance or even a slightly higher for Vcash (former Vanillacoin) as the specially optimized CUDA 6.5 Compute 3.5 release of ccMiner using the latest CUDA 7.5 and the Compute version supported by the specific GPU you have. The Decred (DCR) hashrate is also higher when compared to the latest tpruvot release that includes the optimizations submitted by pallas. Below you can find a quick comparison of the hashrate you can expect from this release on GTX 980 Ti, the archive below includes a 32-bit and 64-bit binaries compiled with CUDA 7.5 and VS2013 for Compute 2.0 – Compute 5.2 GPUs, though we have not tested how it handles on older GPUs.

Do note that the focus of the ccMiner fork from Alexis Provos is on the Blake256 algorithms and most specifically on Vcash and his release brings support for very few algorithms. There are some optimizations available for the other supported algorithms as well, so you might want to compare them as well in terms of performance. It is not a full ccMiner fork with support for all of the algorithms available in other releases, so with this one you can mine only the following algorithms:

– blake for Blake256-14rounds (SFR)
– decred for Blake256-14rounds (DCR)
– blakecoin for Blake256-8rounds (BLC)
– vcash for Blake256-8rounds (XVC)
– whirlpoolx for WhirlpoolX (old VNL algo)
– keccak for keccak256 (Maxcoin)
– lyra2 for LyraBar
– lyra2v2 for VertCoin

Since this fork is not based on the latest code by tpruvot there might be some bugs that have been resolved in the newer codebase of tpruvot’s ccMiner. We have observed something strange already, namely the very fast increase of the difficulty to a very high level on the Suprnova pool for Decred using Stratum over getwork, though it works just fine on YIIMP, so it can be something poolside as well and not related to the miner itself. Below you can find some performance comparison results using an Nvidia GTX 980 Ti GPU:

This release with GTX 980 Ti intensity 31 Decred, 30 Vcash
Vcash – 4453 MHS
Decred – 2394 MHS

1.7.4 alexis78 release Compute 3.5 CUDA 6.5
Vcash – 4418 MHS

Latest 1.7.6-git tpruvot with Pallas tweaks
Decred – 2218 MHS
